The 8 Essential Skincare Products You Need

Whether you’re looking to upgrade your current skincare routine or don’t have a routine (it’s okay, I didn’t have one for the longest time!), there are eight products you absolutely need to be utilizing. While this may seem like a lot, they all have their own job and will help prevent wrinkles and brighten your skin, promise!

Since I started incorporating these eight products into my skincare routine, my skin has completely changed. I look more awake, I’m aging way better (if I do say so myself), and I feel so much more confident.

The 8 Skincare Products You Need

Your morning and evening skincare routines should differ a bit, and you should have products you only use weekly. Below, I’m outlining each of these products, plus some of my favorite products that I personally use.

Cleanser

This might seem like a no-brainer, but I know so many people who have told me in secrecy that they don’t wash their faces. Using a cleanser will remove dirt, oil, and makeup from your skin and will help unclog pores and remove dead skin. If you only use one skincare product, please, please, please let it be a cleanser.

I’m currently using the Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser, which is so easy to use thanks to its quick dispensing pump and a little goes a long way. I have super sensitive skin and am red-prone and this cleanser has no irritants in it!

Exfoliator

An exfoliator is crucial for improving the texture of your skin. It works by removing the surface layer (dead skin) which not only reveals more beautiful skin but also allows your other products to absorb better. This is a step you won’t want to do every day, either. I’d recommend starting with 1-2 times per week and working your way up in frequency.

For an exfoliator, I use the Colleen Rothschild Glycolic Acid Peel Pads. They’re gentle but help remove dead skin cells and unclog your pores.

Toner

Whether you’re exfoliating or not, a toner should be used after cleansing (or after your exfoliator) but before applying any serums or moisturizer. Your toner will help remove another layer of dead skin that the exfoliator didn’t. Most exfoliators utilize a spray top, which you can simply spray on a cotton pad and swipe over your face.

Serum

Before applying your moisturizer, you’ll want to use a serum. I usually opt for a Vitamin C serum to help with preventative care and aging. I’ve been using the Skin Ceuticals C E Ferulic for years and truly cannot say enough good things about it. It’s truly brightened my skin! I also love the Paula’s Choice Peptide Booster Serum. Packed with 8 peptides, plus hydrating and repairing ingredients, it helps target and fight all of your major skin concerns.

Moisturizer

Once you have your toner and serum in place, your moisturizer will work so much better and your skin will be more moisturizer than ever before! I’ve been using the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream for a while now and love that it not only helps with anti-aging, it’s also super hydrating and helps stimulate collagen production.

SPF

Wearing sunscreen daily is crucial to help protect your skin, even if you’re not spending a lot of time outside! I love the Supergroup! Unscreen Sunscreen (SPF 40) for everyday wear. It layers so well under your makeup, and even acts as a primer. I also just started using the Colleen Rothschild Triple Defense Sunscreen Broad-Spectrum SPF 40.

Eye Cream

The area under your eyes is so sensitive but it’s also the area that is most prone to fine lines and wrinkles, so we need to make sure it stays hydrated! I love using the Colleen Rothschild Complete Eye Cream – it’s moisturizing, it helps with fine lines and wrinkles, and it helps diminish the look of dark circles and puffiness. For a double whammy, I layer it on top of the Retinol Supreme Eye Serum.

Weekly Mask

Doing a weekly mask is my form of self-care! Masks are great because there are so many different options out there that help you target your specific skincare concerns whether it’s dry skin, aging, acne, or uneven skin tones.
