How to Organize your Bathroom

Happy New Year!  I’m not one for resolutions,  but every year I always do a big purge and organization “sesh” around my house!  With it being the new year, it feels like a reset button and I just LOVE that! It’s the perfect time to get your home organized, or even just one problem area that bothers you day after day. An organized household runs more smoothly and clutter honestly just stresses me out. It’s like my brain can’t handle all the stuff so it just shuts down from overload. Lol!
What is a popular room that is used in every household day after day, several times a day, that needs a little organization love if I had to guess?!  Know which room I’m talking about?! It’s the bathroom! I have always kept a decent amount of organization up in my bathroom cabinets, but my makeup/vanity and under the sink area was another story. Ha!
Today I’m sharing my top tips on How to Organize your Bathroom and make your mornings run SO much smoother. Get excited!

How to Organize your Bathroom

Carve out a day where you have no where to be, put your hair up and lets get organized!

1) Start by going through and purging old hair products, makeup, or skin care that are :

  • Expired
  • Broken
  • Empty
  • Hasn’t been used in months
  • Products that you have in other similar colors, smells, etc.
Remember that you don’t have to organize products that you don’t need! Wondering if you NEED it? Check out my previous blog How to Get Your Home Organized (Once and For All). It covers 5 basic questions that can help you purge big time!

2) Wondering what I tackled first?  My makeup organization!

It was stuffed in an old makeup bag and then the other half was always left sitting out all over the counter. It was a big pain point for me and was always a mess. I was constantly digging around for my makeup morning after morning and it took up so much time when trying to leave quickly to get kids to school.clear makeup organizers in a bathroom

So in my vanity area, I added these clear drawer organizers as well as a countertop makeup organizer! GAME CHANGER! Let me tell y’all, this makeup organizer is my fave thing I did to the entire bathroom. I love the pull out drawers to house like items together. No more digging around my makeup bag for anything…it is all in plain sight! And it looks great too. It has made my morning routine faster and that is priceless!woman organizing her makeup container

3) Don’t let your drawers become junk drawers!

Organize your drawers so you know where everything is.  I bought 3 sets of drawer organizers and put most of them in my large vanity drawer. I put various skincare tubes and bottles in them, makeup brushes, my daily sunscreen, and so many more things that are all so nicely organized I can’t stop admiring them! Even Vivy commented, “Mommy, this drawer looks so good!”drawer with containers on How to Organize your Bathroom
  • In the drawer next to my vanity,  I have organizers for small hair products (brushes, hair ties, clips, bobby pins, etc.) that we use daily.
  • In the other drawer next to the sink, I have toothpaste, floss and tons of toothbrushes all placed in drawer bins.
  • When they get dirty, they are super easy to clean with soap and water and keep your drawers not stained with toothpaste and lord knows what else.woman sitting in her bathroom and showing How to Organize your Bathroom

4) Don’t waste the extra space under your sink!

I purchased 2 of these under the sink stackable baskets that have drawers that can slide out. I LOVE them! It was a jumbled mess under here, and these have been a lifesaver.  They fit perfectly under my sink area and now Casey is asking for me to order him some!  I put extra hair tools in the tiered baskets , some extra hair products in one because I am a beauty junkie, and then a few other skincare items and washcloths I like close by and use often.  And, of course, my must-have shower cap I swear by to keep my hair frizz-free when I shower every day! The stands could also work great as a handy towel holder to keep your towels nicely organized.clear organizers under the bathroom sink

5) Get cabinet storage you have under control!

I know not everyone has large cabinets in your bathroom, but if you do, I love this system a professional organizer implemented a few years ago in mine. Basically she brought in lots of inexpensive baskets and bins and labeled them with labels such as hair, skin, medical, travel, dental, vision and etc. It keeps everything in its place and it’s so easy to clean up when you have a “home” for your items. It has really been such a doable system to maintain.white containers to organize bathroom items

6)  Have a few functional countertop storage pieces that can double as decor.

I have a pretty lidded glass jar that we keep q-tips and cotton pads in. I also have a large lidded pedestal jar that holds our bath salts and another that holds sponges. Don’t want to spend the money on jars? All you have to do is look around your house! You can re-purpose empty candles or even mason jars!
